Me and my group did a roofing exercise. We drew up a pitched hip roof at a scale of 1:5. We worked out all our rafter and hip lengths, pitch, birdsmouths, overhangs, plumb cuts, seat cuts, jack rafters and ridges.
When we started building it on a full size scale our plumb and seat cuts were a little bit off and the centers for our rafters weren't working out.
I am pretty sure that the reason for these mistakes was rounding the decimal point through out the equation instead of carrying it over and rounding the final answer. Also when you are working in a group things get overlooked, its also good to check answers and not just taking it for granted.
To fix these problems we cut things to suit what we already had correct and fixed in position. The finished product was built to an acceptable standard. The roof planed correctly and was square.
